Collection: Janice Gay Maker
Born and educated in Boston, Janice received her BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art, 1981. Since 1991 she has worked as a full-time artist from her studio, at 1414 Colley Ave in Norfolk’s Ghent District and has exhibited extensively throughout the area. Her passion lies in creating paintings in oil & oil pastels that are infused with light and rich in color and texture, characteristics for which she is well known.
Artist’s Statement
Living near Boston, I had the opportunity to make frequent visits to many of the prestigious museums of that region including the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the Gardner Museum where I always found myself drawn to the Impressionist galleries. Like these artists, I am inspired by nature and the ever-changing quality of light which progresses with the seasons and the hours of the day. I use the colors of my palette to convey my love of nature and its emotional effects on my soul.
