Award winning artist, Faye Vander Veer is one of those people who was “born to paint.” She has been painting in oils since the age of ten when her father made her first easel. Inspired by the work of John Singer Sargent and the Impressionists, painting soon became her passion. “For me, each painting is a journey into the soul - an opportunity to explore my reactions to the color and light I observe in everyday life.” Always with camera in hand, Faye is a consummate observer of people in the act of living their day-to-day lives. She sees the most ordinary occurrence and thinks how wonderful that would look as a painting. From the simplest act of a young girl walking with her father in Italy, to a girl riding her bicycle along the Seine in Paris, the world becomes a living canvas. Each painting captures a moment in time charged with a hint of narrative drama. She paints the world as it speaks to her.

Her dramatic use of color, texture, light and shadow lend a glowing quality, as though they are illuminated from the soul, creating an energy all their own. While using her own photographs as a “general” reference, it is her sensory memory of the event and her emotional reaction that is conveyed on the canvas, causing the viewer to be transported to another time/place. “Painting becomes a language I use to express my emotional response to what is before me and share my experience of the subject with others.”

Faye’s paintings have been featured in American Art Collector and Art of the West magazines and are held in many private and corporate collections both in the US and abroad. She is currently represented by UGallery.com and is listed as one of their “top selling artists.”
